The concept
   ¤  BOARD'S CREATION 

Born of a long tradition of innovations in urban ecology, the Syndicat Mixte de la Communaté Tarifaire en Charente-Maritime (SMCTCM) was created on the 21st of October 1999 by the Charente-Maritime Departmental Council, the Urban Communities of La Rochelle and of the Rochefort Area, with the support of the Poitou-Charentes Regional Authority.

The Urban Community of the Royan Area and the Saintes Intermunicipal Association for Public Transportation joined them later.

The main Authorities organizing departmental public transport joined together in this Syndicat Mixte for Transport (according to the SRU law of December 13, 2000) in order to develop intermodality on the main routes of Charente-Maritime.

The SMCTCM gave itself 3 basic tasks:
• Setting up a consistent ticketing system and a single pass for transport: the Pass'Partout 17
• Developing intermodality through public transportation services coordination in order to make the services more efficient (studies on connections, frequencies of servicing, etc)
• Organizing a multimodal information system for transportation users.
